Bank vaults are typically built as strong room to keep the valuables of the public safe.

Are your interested in acquiring further information pertaining to the overall construction and uses of a strong room? Look at this now to quench your thirst for knowledge:

Construction of Strong Room:

Floor:

The floor of a strong room is 15 cm or 6 inches thick and heavily reinforced over the existing cement concrete floor.

Ceiling:

The ceiling, as per my knowledge, is 30 cm or 12 inches thick. The ceiling is fortified with the help of MS grills consisting of 20 mm rods spaced 75 mm in an angle iron framework.

If it is not possible to provide the strong room with a thickness of 30 cm / 12 inches or with MS grills then the thickness of the floor of the space room must be reduced too.

The Different Uses of Strong Room:

A strong room is constructed on the purpose of safety. Some people also built a strong room in their homes. The basic purpose of a strong room is to protect the contents kept inside of it. The strong rooms protect their contents from theft, fire, and natural disasters.

At this point you might be wondering, why built a strong room when there are safes available. Yes, safes are small, easy to handle and cheaper but they can easily be opened by one or two drills. Sometimes safes are just not enough. Their things far more important than money, like ancient pieces or important documents.

Strong rooms are usually present in banks, and therefore sometimes called Bank Vault. They are like safes but more than them. Historically strong rooms were built in the basement of the bank and their ceilings were vaulted. This is why they are called bank vaults. As time passed technology developed and bank vaults too, got modernized.

Strong rooms are also common in other buildings where valuable things are kept as I mentioned before. These buildings include post offices, grand hotels, ancient museums and, rare libraries. Sometimes certain government ministries also have strong rooms.
